Another week, another blog. Welcome back, Thes-pains. It’s so nice of you to stop by again and take a moment to catch up on some theatre news. I have a feeling this week my blog won’t be very long, just because Hannah did an amazing job at covering all the important things in her blog last week!
The last time I wrote was in 2020, which is hard to believe. I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that it is a new year. Even though I’ve been writing the date, and actually haven’t messed up on the year (surprising, I know!), it just doesn’t feel like a “new year” to me. I’m not really sure why, but it could be for numerous reasons. We won’t get into that today, though.
With the new year, lots of new things start to happen. Especially in “our little world” of theatre. (Haha, get it? Because one of the songs in the musical is called that and that’s what I’m going to talk about!) Two of our theatre productions are in full swing at the moment. We have Into the Woods, our spring musical, and The Yellow Boat, our TFAC show currently underway. Rehearsals for both shows are coming together slowly but surely.

The Yellow Boat is in a little over a month, which gets me a little nervous thinking about that because we still have a lot of work to do. But I have no doubt in my mind that we won’t be able to pull it off. It’s a terrific show, and the writing/ staging is one we’ve never done before. A bit more artsy is probably the best way to describe it. And we officially got Children’s Mercy to be our donor recipient! Whoot, whoot! |
As for Into the Woods, rehearsals are moving along nicely. Like Hannah mentioned last week, the music is much harder than I would’ve expected. I play the Stepmother, who is beautiful of face but vile and black of heart. I’m excited to see the show come together, and especially excited to see the costumes & makeup designs. Emily Morrison showed me my costume last week, and oh my gosh I’m so excited!!
As for other theatre news, SENIORS - the theatre scholarship is officially up on the website. To find it go to www.oakparktheatre.org (ope, you’re already there!) > thespians > theatre department scholarship. There will be a word document for you to download and start the application. If you choose to submit your scholarship packet early (like yours truly) on the section of “total number of thespian points” please put your projected points, as well. And when you print off your points sheet, write in your projected points. (Ex: It is projected that I will get points for Into the Woods, but I can’t technically put them in until after the show. I will also get points for Yellow Boat, Improv, Board, and a few other miscellaneous things. So, add those all up, and that’s your projected!)

I believe that’s it for me, this week. I hope that everyone had a good second week back to school, and that you continued to stay motivated with whatever you need motivation for. And remember, first semester is officially over; we only have one more semester left in this school year (and one semester left of high school for us seniors, EEK!) Keep working hard, thespians. And like always, if you need anything, please reach out. Love always, Your Board Chair Extraordinaire |
