Welcome Back, Esteemed Theatre Enthusiasts!
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’m happy to be back writing to you guys, and happy to let you know that I am now your Co-Board Chair/Social Media Outreach Chair for the 2021-2022 Thespian Board! I know- long title. But I am so grateful and so excited for what this year has in store for Troupe #2758.
Speaking of what this year has in store, we have our first productions up and running! Theatre III/IV students are working on creating their Fright Night stories, and rehearsals have just started this week for the musical, Bring It On! It’s nice to be back in session, and for us seniors- our last theatre season! So crazy.
Before I get all sappy and motivational, here’s the 4-1-1 on upcoming events before next month's thespian meeting;
Thespian Parent Meeting- Sept 21
Food Night – September 28 5-9pm
Savers Fundrive – Sept 27-Oct 16
Fright Night – October 11 & 12
Now, like I said before, it absolutely blows my mind that I’m a senior. I feel like just yesterday I was applying for crew in my first production, and now auditions for my final fall musical have just ended. So far, being a senior is weird. It doesn’t even feel like my lasts are happening, but even now, three weeks into the school year, I’ve already done some of those typical things for the last time. (Like first day of school, yearbook photos- stuff that is so trivial but I’m such a sentimental person) And to me, it’s important to make the most of these ‘lasts. I have a goal of making this senior year the best year it can be, especially after the COVID-controlled year we just had. Now, this is a common goal for seniors, because doesn’t everyone want a great last year? Well, yes. But having the best last year may look a little different in my eyes than it does in others.
Because having the best year doesn’t always mean reaching every goal, or getting everything, you want, or being recognized as the best at what you do. Truthfully, you just can’t control the hand you are dealt. But you can control how you take your cards and play them strategically to win. Or, maybe you forfeit and find a different game to play. To me, having the best year means being happy and at peace. Taking away all the insignificant stresses and burdens that you put up with in the past three years and just cherishing the time you have left. Not wasting any more time on anything that just doesn’t truly matter. If something doesn’t bring you any joy, let it go. If something doesn’t bring you any joy, let it go. Yes, I wrote that twice. Take it in, apply it to your life.

I got a fortune cookie fortune once that said, “there is no path to happiness, happiness is the path.” And I still have it, and I look at it often, because Panda Express has never spoken such truth to me before. Only accept what you deserve, and only spend your time doing things that make you happy. Alright well, I’m off my soap box now. Hope this school year brings you the peace and happiness you deserve. “Life is like a play in the theater: it does not matter how long it lasts, but how well it was played.” -Seneca No If’s or And’s, Only (Hannah) Butts |
