Hello for the last time (this school year), Esteemed Theatre Enthusiasts! Yes, you read that right, this is my final blog post of the 2020-2021 school year. This has been a unique year to say the least, but I could always count on theatre to keep me busy. Speaking of being busy, we just wrapped up our final production of the year, One Acts Festival! I wrote and directed my first one act this year, Overdated. I had the absolute most fun with this process- from coming up with a concept, to writing and editing, to blocking and directing, etc. Plus, it really helped that I had such an amazing and fun cast that brought my little rom com to life. I just can’t wait to restart the process all over again next year. Special thanks to everyone who streamed the theatre ¾ one acts! We all worked so hard and we really appreciate the support! |
It absolutely blows my mind that in just three weeks, my junior year is over! I will be 75% done with high school. One year left. I feel like I was just a sophomore two months ago! I’ve never been one who could easily accept change, and I’m trying to prepare myself for all the change that will be entering my life in the next year. One of those changes being that the seniors are leaving! In less than a week, the seniors are done with school at Oak Park forever! That is insane to me. It makes me sad, but so proud and excited for them! I’m sure I’m speaking for a lot of people when I say that the friends you make in theatre are some of the relationships you will cherish forever, I can’t wait to see what they do with the next chapter of their lives!
This year has certainly been one that will be so distinctly easy to remember. It’s been unique. It’s been difficult. It’s one that has changed the way we problem solve, the way we adapt, and the way we live, permanently. Even though absolutely nothing went according to plan, I am grateful for what this year has given me. I’ve learned so much about cherishing what I have and not taking things for granted. I’ve also certainly learned to find the bright side of dark times, and I’m optimistic for this next year. Normal will never have the same definition it once had, but I’m hopeful that we will make our new definition soon, and that it’s not too far off of what we once knew.
The end of the year also means it’s the end of my time on the 2020-2021 thespian board. Which is insane to me! I have had an absolute blast this year. I think the highlight of serving on board this year for me was creating the new virtual thespian points system. I’m just so proud of how well its working and glad I could create something this department can utilize for many years to come!
I have been honored to be your Points Chair; I can’t wait for what the future holds!

And lastly, before I sign off, a few last words to my thespians. To the seniors; Thank you. Thank you for the family atmosphere you helped create, and for the role models and mentors you have been. Your talents and passion will be greatly missed next year- theatre won’t be the same without you! To the underclassmen; I am so proud of you all! Your hard work does not go unnoticed and I can’t wait to see where it takes you. Let’s make this next year the best one yet! “The curtain rises even on an actors worst day.” – Steward Stafford No If’s or And’s, Only (Hannah) Butts |
