It’s (almost) spring break!! It might already be spring break depending what time you’re reading this! I hope everyone had a good first FULL(ish) week back to school! It definitely took some adjusting for me to get back into the swing of waking up early so many days in one week. But this week has actually turned out a lot better than I thought. Besides the crowded hallways and occasional large class, I don’t mind this whole “everyone going back” like I thought I would. It’s actually kind of exciting in certain aspects like with my art classes, I get to see my L-Z pals. Even in my Theatre 1 TA class, it surprised me how many kids there actually were and that I knew!
Alongside all the excitement and nerves of going back full time, there was also another exciting thing that happened this week in the world of Oak Park Theatre. We had One Act Auditions!!! Auditions happened on Tuesday, followed by callbacks on Thursday, and then we went straight into casting! The whole experience was extremely exciting, especially to do for the first time! Last year, One Acts sadly got cut short (before we were even able to have auditions, actually), because of the dreaded Coronavirus and quarantine. But this year I am so grateful that we’re able to do this!! |
The One Act process has been a really good learning experience for me so far. With only getting partially trained on how to organize everything by last year’s Board Chair, Elaina, it was certainly a trial-and-error process. But I feel like I did both One Acts and our Theatre ¾ class proud; with making the audition form, leading one act critiques Liz Lerman style, and answering questions they had! And as for my show, The Smith’s Family Vacation of ‘89, I literally could not be MORE excited than I am right now. I just know my cast is going to do amazing with bringing this thing to life and I can’t wait to work with and learn more about them, and about myself as a director.
Alongside One Act rehearsals soon to begin, Kaleighan Chastain’s show The Scars That Made Us, will also be premiered on stage April 24th in the Little Theatre! So many students are working so hard on this production and it's phenomenal! We also have an upcoming food fundraiser night on Wednesday, March 31st at MOD Pizza from 11 AM - 10 PM. Alongside that news, the 2021-2022 board applications will also be out the week after spring break! Which is so exciting (and a little nerve wracking, I know). More information to come after spring break.
There are so many exciting things happening fourth quarter, and the school year is slowly but surely winding down. For more information about anything theatre wise, or our upcoming food nights you can visit our website OakParkTheatre.org (which you’re currently on), swing by the green room to look at the calendar (which I just updated), or check out any of our social media pages!
