Hello esteemed theatre enthusiasts!
I hope you all have been staying positive and testing negative! Before I get into the good stuff, I just want to say thank you for reading our blog, whether this be the first one you’ve came across or if you come back weekly for the scoop! We are very appreciative of the support. In case you’ve never seen me around, I’m Hannah Butts, your points chair for the 2020-2021 thespian board! As a junior, this is my third year in the OP Theatre Department, and my first year on board.

Since I’ve been around a while, I can definitely say this will be the strangest year of theatre so far. Actually, it’s the strangest year of school so far. But strange doesn’t necessarily mean bad. It’s all in how you view it. Strange could mean disappointing, difficult, or weird. Or, strange could mean challenging, inspiring and unique. Unconventional does not mean unenjoyable. One thing in particular that will certainly be different this year, will be the audience. At least for this first semester, our audiences will be virtual. So instead of filling the seats with beloved family and friends, make sure to log on to the live broadcast online to support your fellow thespians! Just so you know what’s happening and when, let me help you out; The Last-Minute Replacements Halloween Improv Show – October 22nd @ 7pm streamed on a Micro Soft Teams Meeting (Info can be found on the OP theatre social media!) Radium Girls (Fall Play) – November 12, 13 & 14th @ 7pm streamed at N2 Sports 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse (Theatre ¾ Recruitment Show)– December 17, 18 & 19 @ 7pm streamed at N2 Sports |
Be sure to tune in to the shows we have coming up, I can guarantee you won’t regret it!
All in all, this is a year of trial and tribulation, and we are facing challenges we never imagined we would have to face. I know what it’s like to let this whole situation get you down. I personally spent most of my quarantine letting the change of everything really get to me. To say that starting up the new theatre season has brought elation and routine back into my life, would be an understatement.

But, if there is one thing theatre is good for, its giving people (both the ones behind the curtain and the audience) an outlet to forget about all of life’s anxieties and just have fun. I hope that what we make of this year gives you some enjoyable and valuable memories to look back on when you think of 2020. “The theatre is the first serum that man invented to protect himself from the sickness of despair.” – Jean-Louis Barrault No If’s or And’s, Only (Hannah) Butts |
